US-DOT #: is a unique identifier that tracks the safety performance and compliance of motor carriers and other transportation companies 

 Common Operating Authority: also known as an MC Number, is a legal right that allows a motor carrier to operate a commercial vehicle in the United States 

 Contract operating authority: is a type of operating authority that allows a motor carrier to transport goods for hire to specific shippers through contracts. Contract carriers are required to have liability insurance, but they are not required to have cargo insurance 

 Intra-state Operating Authority: When you haul freight within a single state's borders, you are operating as a INTRA-state Motor Carrier and required to obtain intrastate Operating Authority. Each state has different rules and regulations concerning Intrastate transportation 

MCS-150 Form provides information about the business to the FMCSA, including:

• Whether the business is a hazardous materials carrier or passenger vehicle
• The number of vehicles in the fleet
• Mileage 

 Authority reinstatement: is the process of regaining operating authority for a company or carrier after it has been revoked.  

• Reinstatement Documentation needed:  Proof of insurance, BOC-3 Form & a active US-D.O.T # will be needed.  

 Authority Name Changes: Changing a company's name associated with an operating authority. A company can change its name associated with an operating authority by filing an MCSA-5889 Motor Carrier Records Change Form. 

 Unified Carrier Registration (UCR): is a federally-mandated program that requires commercial vehicle operators to register and pay fees to operate across state lines. 

BOC-3 filing: Designation of Agents for Service of Process, is a federal form that designates a representative to accept legal documents on behalf of a transportation company in each state where it operates
