Liability coverage, also known as primary auto liability, covers you against property damage or bodily injury that you may cause to others. Minimum limits will vary from state to state. We recommended that carriers carry between $750,000 and $1,000,000 for primary auto liability protection. These rates are determined by many factors including driving record, experience, radius and claims history.
Physical damage coverage, is coverage in place on a policy to protect your truck and/or trailer from things such as windstorm, earthquake, flood, collision, fire, theft, hail, or vandalism. Any losses that are sustained will be subject to the deductible listed on the policy. The most common are $500 and $1000. Your truck or fleet of trucks and trailers.
Cargo insurance provides coverage against physical damage or loss of goods during shipping, whether by land, sea or air. Because of the many dangers inherent in shipping, most individuals and businesses choose to insure their goods while they are in transit. However, many different types of cargo insurance are available and it is important that you know exactly what you want before taking the insurance, or you may find yourself not covered for every eventuality.
Trailer Interchange insurance provides Physical Damage insurance for trailers being pulled under a trailer interchange agreement. This is essentially Physical Damage insurance for non-owned trailers. This insurance protects you if the trailer is damaged by collision, fire, theft, explosion or vandalism.
Since the exchanged trailers are not owned by you, they require separate insurance coverage because they are not covered under your regular Physical Damage insurance.
Non-Trucking Liability (NTL) protects owner-operators when not actually under dispatch. When an owner-operator is under permanent lease to a motor carrier, the carrier’s primary liability insurance typically covers the owner-operator only when driving under dispatch (proof of primary liability insurance is required to purchase NTL). Non-Trucking Liability provides coverage in case you cause an accident while driving your vehicle for non-business or personal use (e.g. outside the scope of the motor carrier’s control or direction with no economic benefit to the owner-operator or lease company). NTL does not apply when the vehicle is being used to transport any goods/merchandise or while goods are being loaded or unloaded. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists coverage is also available in conjunction with NTL (UM/UIM protects you if you're involved in an accident with someone who does not have liability insurance or does not have enough insurance to pay for your damages).
